99 Days Of 99 Jersey Numbers: #90

Posted Jun 9, 2014

A tight end wore this number during the Dolphins' inaugural season in 1966, but it would be another 20 years before another Miami player would wear it.

As we tick the days off to the season opener against the Patriots on Sept. 7, each day we highlight the players who wore that particular jersey number during their tenure in Miami. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

Tight end Bill Cronin wore this number during the Dolphins’ inaugural season in 1966, but it would be another 20 years before another Dolphin would wear it  –  linebacker Andy Hendel in 1986. The number never really found a home with one particular player. In fact, only two members of the Dolphins wore the jersey for more than three years  –  defensive ends Marco Coleman (1992-95) and Ryan Baker (2009-12).

The complete list of Dolphins who have worn #90 includes Cronin (1966); Hendel (1986); Eric Kumerow (1988-90); Coleman (1992-95); Adewale Ogunleye (2000-01); Rob Burnett (2002-03); Jeff Zgonina (2004-06); Rodrique Wright (2007-08); Baker (2009-12); Andre Fluellen (2012) and Vaughn Martin (2013).
