99 Days Of 99 Jersey Numbers: #93

Posted Jun 6, 2014

Some of the better sack artists in Dolphin history wore #93, including two who each had a season of 15 or more sacks in Miami.

As we tick the days off to the season opener against the Patriots on Sept. 7, each day we highlight the players who wore that particular jersey number during their tenure in Miami. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

Some of the better sack artists in Dolphin history wore #93, including Trace Armstrong (1995-00) and Adewale Ogunleye (2002-03), who each had a season of 15 or more sacks in Miami. Armstrong, a University of Florida grad, wasn’t the only sackmeister from that school to wear #93 for the Dolphins. Another Gator, Kevin Carter, who recorded over 100 sacks during his NFL career, also wore it during his two seasons (2005-06) in Miami.

The complete list of Dolphins who have worn #93 includes Charles Bennett (1987); Cliff Odom (1990-93); William Gaines (1994); Trace Armstrong (1995-00); Adewale Ogunleye (2002-03); Mario Monds (2004); Kevin Carter (2005-06); Akbar Gbaja-Biamila (2007); Rob Ninkovich (2007-08); Quentin Moses (2009-10); Jason Trusnik (2011-Current).
