99 Days Of 99 Jersey Numbers: #95

Posted Jun 4, 2014

Without doubt, the best player in Dolphin history to wear #95 was a Pro Bowl defensive tackle who may have been the strongest player in Dolphins history.

As we tick the days off to the season opener against the Patriots on Sept. 7, each day we highlight the players who wore that particular jersey number during their tenure in Miami. In some cases, the player and jersey number are synonymous. In other cases, the jersey number represents sustained greatness at a particular position. Whatever the case may be, jersey numbers are an important part of the fabric of professional football.

Without doubt, the best player in Dolphin history to wear #95 was Tim Bowens. In his 11 seasons in Miami (1994-04) he made two Pro Bowls and started 155 games (third highest among defensive players), including 92 consecutive starts. Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor both credited Bowens for their success because of his outstanding, but unheralded, work taking on the blockers in front of them. Bowens was named as the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1004 and was inducted into the Dolphins’ Walk of Fame in 2012.

Perhaps the current Dolphin wearing that number, Dion Jordan, can surpass Bowens’ accomplishments in the coming years - Dolphins fans certainly hope so. Other players who also wore that jersey number include T.J. Turner, who started 78 games at defensive end during his seven years (1986-92) in Miami, and Dan Wilkinson, one of four players ever to play for the Dolphins who were also the first overall pick in the college draft. Wilkinson, the first overall selection in the 1994 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, spent the last year of his career (2006) as a backup defensive tackle for the Dolphins.

The complete list of Dolphins who have worn #95 includes Turner (1986-92); Bowens (1994-04); Wilkinson (2006); Chase Page (2007); Jason Ferguson (2008-09); Lionel Dotson (2010); Chris Baker (2010); Igor Olshansky (2011) and Jordan (2013).
