In the month of October, Wake recorded nine tackles and three sacks in the Dolphins’ three games. His three sacks, one tallied in each game, were tied for an AFC-high for the month and the team finished with a 3-0 record.
On the season, Wake is tied for fourth in the NFL with 7.5 sacks, all of which have come in the last four games, including a career-high 4.5 sacks against the Arizona Cardinals on September 30. Additionally, his 4.5 sacks against the Cardinals were the most that any player has recorded in a single game this season. Wake’s 35.5 sacks in his first four seasons with the Dolphins are the most by any player in their first four seasons in franchise history. His sack against the New York Jets this past week moved him into 10th place among the franchise’s sack leaders.
This is the first Player of the Month Award for Wake in his four-year career and he is the first Dolphin defensive player to come away with the accolade since Joey Porter accomplished the feat in October of 2008. This is the 12th time in franchise history that a defensive player has been selected for this award and fifth time that a defensive end has received the honor.
