All-Pro defensive end earns first weekly honor of his NFL career

Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9, it was announced today by the National Football League.

Wake had five tackles, three sacks, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and recorded a safety in the Dolphins 22-20 overtime victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on October 31, 2013. The fifth year pro’s evening was highlighted when he recorded the first safety of his NFL career when he sacked Andy Dalton in the end zone with 6:42 remaining in overtime. It marked just the third time in NFL history that an overtime game had been decided on a safety.

The honor marks the first time that Wake has been selected as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. He was honored in 2012 as the AFC Defensive player of the Month for October. Wake is the first Dolphins defensive player to win the award since Week 5 of the 2012 season when Randy Starks was selected for his performance against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 7, 2012.

This is the first Player of the Week honor for the Dolphins of the 2013 season.
