Darr Selected To NFL All-Rookie Team

Posted Jan 19, 2016

Darr finished third in the NFL among all punters with a 47.6 gross punting average.

Punter Matt Darr was selected Tuesday to the NFL All-Rookie Team, chosen in voting conducted by the Professional Football Writers of America.

Darr, who made the Dolphins roster as an undrafted free agent from the University of Tennessee, finished third in the NFL among all punters with a 47.6 gross punting average.

Darr set a franchise rookie record with his 47.6 average, topping the previous mark of 43.2 yards set by Brandon Fields in 2007.

In addition, Darr was eighth in the NFL with 30 punts inside the 20.

Darr became the fourth Dolphins special teams player in the past three seasons to earn a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Kicker Caleb Sturgis and special-teamer Don Jones were honored in 2013; and Jarvis Landry was recognized as a kick returner in 2014.

Tackle Ja’Wuan James also was selected to the All-Rookie Team in 2014.
