"Our team and organization are looking forward to open up the 2011 season on a national stage under the lights," said Dolphins CEO Mike Dee. "With a special tribute and new elements at Sun Life Stadium, we invite all fans to join us for a memorable night and exciting season."
The Dolphins will kickoff the pregame festivities at Sun Life Stadium in a special tribute to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11. The team will salute the American spirit and everyday heroes as 400 police and firefighters will be recognized and surround superstar recording artist and Dolphins’ limited partner, Fergie, who will perform the national anthem.
Additionally, the fans will receive hand-held American flags and will experience a special flyover by a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. At halftime, the United States Army Golden Knights will be parachuting into Sun Life Stadium carrying a Dolphins flag, a United States flag and the flags of the three states that endured plane crashes on September 11, 2001.
Monday Night Football legend and Grammy Award winning musician, Hank Williams Jr., will introduce Monday Night Football live from the field at Sun Life Stadium to the national television audience. In addition, the Dolphins will feature four Dolphins icons and Pro Football Hall of Famers – Bob Griese, Larry Little, Dan Marino, and Dwight Stephenson – as the Honorary Captains of the game.
The Dolphins will also roll out the Orange Carpet for a number of notable attendees, including multi-platinum recording artist and Dolphins’ limited partner Marc Anthony and Twilight star Taylor Lautner.
