The Miami Dolphins took over Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School for their monthly Blitz and more than 500 kids were impacted by the event. The Blitz took place as the students concluded their portion of the FCAT Writes.
Members of the Youth Programs, Special Teams, Community Relations and Marketing Departments set up at the school to celebrate Black History Month. The Blitz began with Miami Dolphins Alumni speaking to students about the importance of education, physical fitness and making positive choices. The students then went outside and took part in a special Gatorade JTC.
Aside from the six stations that are usually at a Gatorade JTC, a special seventh station was added as part of the event. Students wrote down on an “I Have a Dream Card”, what they wanted to be when they got older. The cards were placed inside the school as part of a mural.

“I really enjoy having these Blitzes because the children really love it,” Miami Dolphins Youth Programs Manager Troy Drayton said. “It’s a great way to conclude Black History Month and do something meaningful for the students.”
Aside from Troy Drayton, Miami Dolphins alumni Derrick Rodgers, Lorenzo Hampton and Troy Stradford also took part in the blitz. After speaking to kids inside the classroom about the importance of getting a good education, they went outside to teach the JTC Drills.
“It was a fantastic day for school and faculty and we appreciate the efforts of the Miami Dolphins,” John Hoolihan, the school’s Science Coach said. “The school is in a process of rebuilding and turning around our poor performance. There is more to education than test scores and we echo the sentiments of Mr. Drayton.”
