The Miami Dolphins hosted their annual Spring Break Camp presented by Under Armour at the Doctor’s Hospital Training Facility in Davie, FL, and approximately 120 children participated in a week full of fun and learning.
“I thought the week went really well,” Miami Dolphins Youth Programs Director Twan Russell said. “The kids were very active and engaged this year. You could see they got a great experience from being at the training facility and learning from former players.”
Former NFL players coached the kids, ranging from 6-14 years old, on the fundamentals of football that helped with their mechanics, speed and agility among other things.
The children were placed on eight different teams, depending on their age group, and participated in a variety of training drills and flag football. After four days of practice and scrimmage games, the teams played in a championship game on Friday, with the winners receiving medals.
“The children really progressed throughout the week,” Youth Programs Coordinator Troy Drayton said. “The games on Friday were very competitive and you could see they picked up a lot.”
The parents and children were also treated to a breakfast Friday morning by Kellogg’s, who provided breakfast bars, fruits and drinks to get the athletes prepared for the games.
The Dolphins Youth Programs summer camps will begin on June 17 in Davie, and will take place in various locations in South Florida.
The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders in staying physically active through the Junior Training Camps (JTC), Youth Football Clinics and Youth Football Camps.
