Miami, FL – The Miami Dolphins paid a visit to Morningside K-8 Academy, home of the Dolphins, for the Gatorade Junior Training Camp (JTC), and nearly 400 students participated in the interactive event, which consisted of six football drills.
The training camp begin with Miami Dolphin Alumni and current Youth and Community Programs Manager Troy Drayton communicating to the students the way to have a “Dol-Fit” lifestyle, which stresses getting an education, staying physically fit and making positive choices.
“We had a great time today at Morningside Academy,” Drayton said. “I am very happy that we made a positive impact on these children. They were a very well behaved group and were receptive to the Dol-Fit message.”
Morningside Academy is located in the Little Haiti community of Miami-Dade County and is a school of approximately 475 kids. They were once an A school and recently dropped to being a D school. This year they have worked their way back up to being a C school with hopes of returning to being a top academy.
“We are trying to teach the kids respect, self-motivation and the importance of working together,” Morningside EBD Clinician Marie Cantor said. “We are a multicultural school and want the kids to understand how important it is to work as a team. We appreciate the message Mr. Drayton gave the kids about the importance of an education as well as making positive choices in their life.”
The JTC then shifted to the physical fitness aspect, where the students participated in interactive football drills, emphasizing the fundamentals of football.
Morningside is a Dual Language School which allows parents to choose between French, Haitian-Creole or Spanish. Students receive 75 minutes of language instruction every day. This instruction includes: oral proficiency, immersion of literature, and cultural traditions
The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders in staying physically active through our Junior Training Camps, Youth Football Clinics and Youth Football Camps, while also emphasizing the significance of education and making positive choices.
