Dolphins Revolutionizing The Digital Fan Experience

Season Ticket Members will test out Gimbal proximity beacon technology this Sunday.


This is the 21st century, which means technological advances never cease to amaze. The Miami Dolphins have teamed with Qualcomm Retail Solutions, Inc. and eMbience to unveil the next big thing this Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.

A select number of Season Ticket Members will be the first to experience live at an NFL game the benefits of Gimbal proximity beacons courtesy of Qualcomm Retail Solutions Inc. and the Gimbal contextual awareness platform. This new technology, which will interact with mobile devices through free downloaded applications, will allow fans on game day to literally engage and interact with different aspects of the stadium experience, from receiving a personalized greeting upon arrival to alerting them as to which concessions have the shorter wait times as well as where the best concessions deals are and what special offers are taking place at the team store.

“We’re looking at how we can help make our game day experience the best in the NFL," said Tery Howard, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Technology Officer for the Dolphins. "It is important for us to provide our Season Ticket Members with up-to-the-moment stadium information throughout their time at Sun Life Stadium, starting while they are tailgating in our parking lots and enjoying the activities on our plazas. Once they enter into the bowl, we will be able to redirect fans to shorter wait times at concessions so they don’t have to miss a play if they want to enjoy food or beverage.”

In addition to all of that important information, the Qualcomm Gimbal platform will allow the fans to learn more about the franchise and stadium through interactive experiences on the premises. This will pertain to the Grand Plaza at Gate G to the Walk of Fame at Gate C.

“As you pass by the Don Shula statue you’ll learn more about the Hall of Fame legendary coach who led the Dolphins to two Super Bowl championships and a perfect season,” said Kevin Hunter Sr. Director of Product Management for Qualcomm Retail Solutions. “It’s going to help bring out the history, the value and the excitement that Dolphins fans love through video and other technology.”

It’s another example of Season Ticket Member benefits and should bring about an exciting response from those testing it out.
