The 27-year-old Lawrence was a sixth-round draft choice of the Chiefs in 2009. Originally entering the league as a wide receiver, he saw action in six games during his rookie season with one start at wide receiver for the Chiefs. He caught one pass for nine yards and gained 42 yards on two carries; also used as a return specialist he returned 16 kickoffs for 317 yards. Lawrence spent 14 weeks on the Kansas City practice squad in 2010 prior to being activated to the 53-man roster for the final two weeks of the season as well as the AFC Wildcard Game. An All-Southland performer at McNeese State, Lawrence appeared in 37 games for the Cowboys and totaled 99 receptions for 1,905 yards and 15 touchdowns during his collegiate career.
