After addressing the defensive side of the ball yesterday with the re-signing of nose tackle Paul Soliai and the addition of defensive back Richard Marshall, the Miami Dolphins turned to the offensive line today. Miami signed free agent offensive lineman Artis Hicks, most recently of the Cleveland Browns. Additionally tight end Jeron Mastrud has signed an exclusive right contract with the team.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Hicks just completed his 10th season in the NFL and has played in 118 games with 71 starts. He also has appeared in seven playoff contests, starting three of them. His 71 starting assignments during the regular season have come at left tackle (8), left guard (27), right guard (30) and right tackle (6).

Hicks began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent his first four seasons in Philly, including playing in 14 games with 13 starts at left guard in 2004 as the Eagles advanced to Super Bowl XXXIX. He was traded to the Vikings prior to the start of the 2006 season and stayed in Minnesota from 2006-09, signed as a free agent in Washington with the Redskins in 2010 and then played nine games with the Browns last season.

Hicks, 33, played his college ball at the University of Memphis, where he was a four-year starter, playing both guard and left tackle. He was also a first team All-Conference selection with the Tigers. The Jackson, Tennessee native attended Jackson Central Merry High School and started three of his fours seasons there. He was named to the All-West Tennessee Second Team as an offensive tackle.

The 6-6, 253 pound Mastrud is entering his third season in the NFL. He has played in 22 career games, with five starts.
