The NFL has announced the Miami Dolphins International Series matchup with the Oakland Raiders at London’s historic Wembley Stadium will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2014. The game featuring the two AFC rivals, falls during Week 4 of the 2014 NFL Season, will be the first of the three games in the 2014 International Series. The time of the game will be announced at a later date.
The 2014 Week 4 contest against the Raiders will be the second regular season visit by the Dolphins to the United Kingdom since the International Series began in 2007 and the third regular season game played outside the United States in the franchise’s 48 year history.
The first came on October 28, 2007 when Miami hosted the New York Giants in the inaugural International Series game in front of 81,176 fans at Wembley Stadium. The matchup of the two storied franchises was the first ever regular season NFL game played in the United Kingdom.
In addition to the first ever International Series game in London in 2007 against the Giants, the Dolphins also participated in the Bills Toronto Series as they faced the Buffalo Bills on December 7, 2008 in Toronto, Canada.
The Dolphins have a long history of competing on the international stage. Dating back to the 1988 preseason the team has been a part of six games that have taken place on international soil– the first four of which were a part of the American Bowl series which the NFL staged during the preseason between 1986 and 2005.
Along with the Dolphins and Raiders, the NFL also announced two other games will take place as a part of the International Series in 2014, with the Atlanta Falcons hosting the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 26th and the Jacksonville Jaguars hosting the Dallas Cowboys on November 9th. The times of all three of the game will be announced by the NFL at a later date.
