“The Miami Dolphins have impacted South Miami K-8 Center in a very positive format,” said Anamarie G. Moreiras, Principal for South Miami K-8 Center. “They have motivated and encouraged our students to participate in today’s event.”
South Miami K-8 Center has over 800 students ranging from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. The students partake in physical activities, such as physical education and recess, every day between four to six hours per week. The school consists of 50% Hispanic, followed by 30% African-American (Black, non-Hispanic) and 20% Caucasian (White).
The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ mission is to emphasize the importance of education, physical fitness, and positive choices for kids in a safe and fun environment.
South Miami K-8 Center is a magnet school for the arts providing art, music, dance, and drama instruction for eligible third through eighth grade students. Academic excellence is their number one goal. Educational excellence enables their students to lead an intelligent life and understanding reading, writing, and mathematics is essential to this goal. Reading, writing, and math opens the doors to understanding and achieving in history, sociology, science, economics, and the performing & visual arts. In addition, educational excellence must produce thinking, feeling, and morally sound citizens of the world. They live by their motto: "Raise Your Spirits and Soar Like Eagles!"
“(I) hope students continue to be motivated and encouraged living a healthy lifestyle,” Moreiras added. “So one day, they might be able to do for their community like the (Miami) Dolphins have done for us.”
