Hickey Excited For Start Of Season

Posted Jul 25, 2014

General Manager says training camp’s focus is on building a winning team.

About 30 minutes before the first practice of training camp 2014, General Manager Dennis Hickey was full of excitement and optimism.

And he said Dolphins fans should be as well.

“That’s the great thing about training camp,” Hickey said. “When the fans get a glimpse of what we’re doing here and see what (the players) can do. We’re really excited about this team and what they’re going to be able to accomplish.”

Hickey indicated that center Mike Pouncey and Knowshon Moreno both have been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list. The two reportedly underwent surgical procedures after the offseason program, Pouncey on a hip and Moreno on a knee.

Part of what had Hickey, entering his first training camp as Dolphins GM, so excited was the offseason program and how the players looked upon reporting for camp Thursday.

“Our players are in a great place,” said Hickey, who indicated that every player passed the conditioning test Thursday. “They’re real excited to get back on the football field.

“Our attendance (in the offseason) was as good as I’ve seen in my 18 years. That indicates their mind-set is about winning.”

As for goals for the 2014 season, Hickey said simply: “We want to be the best team we can be. We’re here to win. That’s our focus.”
