Jerry And Spitler Get First Starts Of Preseason; Other Notes

Posted Aug 24, 2012

Two new starters will be in the lineup tonight for the Miami Dolphins as they take on the Atlanta Falcons in the third preseason game at Sun Life Stadium – right guard John Jerry and inside linebacker Austin Spitler – and Gary Guyton will get his third start.

Jerry is replacing Artis Hicks, who is out with a neck injury and Spitler is starting for Karlos Dansby due to a knee injury that Dansby has fighting now for two weeks. Guyton starts again for Kevin Burnett, who is dealing with a back injury.

Quarterback David Garrard (knee), safety Kelcie McCray (foot), cornerback Kevyn Scott (leg), running back Jonas Gray (knee), offensive tackle Lydon Murtha (foot), defensive tackle Tony McDaniel and wide receiver Brian Hartline (leg) joined Hicks, Dansby and Burnett on the inactive list. Guard Eric Steinbach, who retired Wednesday, was placed on the reserve/retired list.

For the Falcons, cornerbacks Christopher Owens and Darrin Walls, safety Shann Schillinger, running back Jason Snelling, defensive tackles Elisha Joseph and Corey Peters, offensive tackle Will Svitek and wide receiver Kerry Meier are inactive. They had no changes to the starting lineup for this game.

WELCOME BACK, LOU: Former Dolphins fullback Lousaka Polite was greeted by kicker Dan Carpenter, punter Brandon Fields, wide receiver Davone Bess and linebackers Karlos Dansby and Austin Spitler, among others, during warm-ups. Polite spent three seasons with the Dolphins (2008-11) and was signed by Atlanta in the offseason.
