This past Saturday’s semi-final games primary matched up the South Florida Youth Football League’s (SFYFL) super bowl champions against the American Youth Football League’s (AYFL)super bowl champions across all weight classes from peewees to the unlimiteds. Pound for pound each weight class faced off on the field but the unlimited only able opponent with matched pound and class were Mid-Florida’s Football Conference unlimited weight class champions The Outlaws. The Outlaws unlimiteds took the field against the AYFL’s unlimited weight class champions for the right to be called state champion.
The semi-finals kicked off with an exciting match between the (AYFL) Plantation Wildcats Pee Wees against the (SFYFL) Miami Gardens Ravens 70 LBS. team. These guys may be small in size, but they were big in surprise. Both teams were led by explosive running backs that would just not be denied. The Plantation Wildcats defense would step up in the fourth quarter, securing the win, 24-19 over the Ravens. The Plantation Wildcats advance to the championship round to face the (MXYFL) West Park Hurricanes 75 LBS for the 8U championship game.
The next match up featured two undefeated teams which dominated their weight classes in their own respective leagues. (AYFL) North East Rebels 90 LBS. squad took on the, (SFYFL) Miami Gardens Cowboys 85 LBS. team, in a battle of the unbeatens. The Cowboys would prove to have too much offense for the Rebels to stop, as the Cowboys punched the ticket to the championship round, defeating the Rebels 20-12. The Cowboys will face the Greater Miami Pop Warner(GMPW) Florida City Razorbacks 90 LBS. team in the 9U championship game.
The third game of the day featured one of the top ranked teams in Florida, the (SFYFL) Ft. Lauderdale Hurricanes 95 LBS. team which lined it up against the, (AYFL) Pembroke Pines Bengals 100 LBS. team. Both of these youth programs have a strong tradition of super bowl championships and would prove it once they took the field. This game focused on the battle in the trenches which the Bengals were clearly winning in the first half. Bengals go up by two scores early, but the Hurricanes stayed the course and with the hurricane force winds blowing in Ft. Lauderdale’s favor, the Canes come back and win, 20-16. The Hurricanes will face the Miami Xtreme Youth Football League (MXYFL) North Miami Beach Sundevils 105 LBS.
In game four of the Miami Dolphins Championship Series, the (AYFL) West Pembroke Pines Wildcats 110 LBS. team faced the (SFYFL) Miami Gardens Ravens 105 LBS. team for the 11U championship. The Wildcats jumped out the gate early scoring on the opening kickoff and never looked back, defeating the Ravens 20-0. The West Pembroke Pines Wildcats win the first ever Miami Dolphins Championship!
Game five would prove to be one of the most exciting youth football games played all season by either team. (AYFL) Pasadena Panthers 120’s laced up their cleats against the (SFYFL) Miami Gardens Ravens 115’s in an offensive battle which produced 65 points between both teams. But it was the Ravens that outlasted the Panthers, winning 33-32 in an overtime thriller. Ravens will face the National Youth Football League (NYFL) Lake Steven Cardinals 120’s in the 12U championship game.
As the sun started to set, one of the most anticipated match ups of any youth football match ups, (AYFL) Pembroke Pines Bengals 135’s took on the (SFYFL) Deerfield Packer Rattlers 120’s in a defensive battle where the defensive backs were the most valuable players of the night. Key interceptions by the Rattlers’ cornerbacks in the red zone sealed Deerfield’s victory, 12-6 over the Bengals. The Packer Rattlers will face the (MXYFL) Kendall Hammocks Warriors 135’s for the 13U championships!
The semi-finals night would conclude with the battle of the big boys, Mid Florida Conference (MDFCC) Orlando Outlaws unlimiteds lined up against the (AYFL) Pembroke Pines Bengals unlimiteds was an absolute youth football classic. The Bengals led the Outlaws 20-0 at the half. The Outlaws scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters bringing the score 19-20, with three minutes left in the game. The Bengals put the game out of reach scoring at the two minute mark, winning the unlimited championship, 27-19.
The semi-finals were just a prelude to what is to come this Saturday at the Miramar Ansin Center. This weekend match ups are as follows:
