The Miami Dolphins made their first middle school visit of the school year, dropping by Richmond Heights Middle School in Miami for a Gatorade Junior Training Camp (JTC). Approximately 250 students participated in the camp, which consisted of six interactive football drills, cheerleader routines and the communication of the “Dol-Fit” message.
“This is a phenomenal experience for the kids. This is an opportunity for the kids to showcase their talent and have a good time out here,” Richmond Heights Assistant Principal Patrick Burrows said. “The message is awesome. What Mr. Russell spoke to the kids today about is phenomenal because those are the keys to life.”

The JTC commenced with Dolphins Youth Programs Director Twan Russell speaking to the students about being “Dol-Fit,” which highlights the importance of education, physical fitness and positive choices.
Then, the children took part in an assortment of football drills that emphasize speed, football fundamentals and technique.
The students enjoyed running through the drills, especially being instructed by Russell and Youth Programs Coordinator Troy Drayton, who are both former Miami Dolphins players.
“The JTC was an outstanding time today and everyone at the school was very involved,” Russell said. “I felt we really connected with the students in spreading the Dol-Fit message and making sure they got the most out of this event.”
Richmond Heights Middle School is home to nearly 580 kids and participates in a variety of their own initiatives. In addition to promoting healthy eating choices, the school commends good grades. Assistant Principal Burrows began a program named “Fab 50,” which will allow 50 student-athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, have perfect attendance and no suspensions, the opportunity to go to the University of Miami to meet head football coach Al Golden and his staff.
