The Miami Dolphins paid a visit to local Frank C. Martin K-8 Center in Miami for the Gatorade Junior Training Camp (JTC), and nearly 500 students participated in the event, which consisted of six interactive football drills, cheerleader routines and positive messages.
“The students were extremely excited. They actively wanted to participate and were ecstatic to have the representation from the Dolphins here,” Frank C. Martin Principal Felicia Joseph said. “The message the Dolphins said connected with what we are already doing with the message we send.”
The camp began with Miami Dolphins Youth Programs Coordinator Troy Drayton engaging with the students on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating healthy, staying physically fit and making positive choices. Drayton stressed that following those lifestyle choices means you are living a “Dol-Fit” lifestyle.
After the “Dol-Fit” message, the students were treated to the football stations, which ranged from throwing and catching to running under hurdles and running through ladders.
“I think the JTC was amazing today,” Drayton said. “The students had an opportunity to learn football fundamentals, and see the significance of daily physical activity. I think we left the kids with a great impression.”
Frank C. Martin K-8 Center serves a student body of 1,140, and participates in its own health initiatives, such as Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign.
The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders in staying physically active through our Junior Training Camps (JTC), Youth Football Clinics and Youth Football Camps.
