NOTEBOOK: DCC Ride Sets Up Lane Closures; Other Notes

Posted Nov 2, 2012

Third charity bicycle ride to fight cancer bigger than before.

South Florida might not resemble the mountainous paths of France that are home to the Tour de France pelotons, but this weekend on roadways throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties motorists will be asked to heed a very contingent of charity bicycle riders.

The third annual Dolphins Cycling Challenge is being held Saturday and Sunday, with thousands of riders taking off from Sun Life Stadium bright and early Saturday morning. In order to accommodate those participating in the six different rides, the Dolphins have announced lane closures on the different routes.

This major community initiative is a collaborative effort between the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to directly to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center part of UHealth.

All adult riders will receive two complimentary tickets to the Miami Dolphins game versus the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, November 25th. Riders who attend the game will be honored in a special on-field pre-game ceremony celebrating their fundraising efforts.

There is a registration fee of $150 per rider and a fundraising minimum goal between $250 and $1200 depending on the ride. Proceeds from the rides will go to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The DCC is actively seeking participants, volunteers and corporate partners. For more information, please visit www.rideDCC.com.

DOLPHINS TIDBITS

## Philbin began his press conference the same way he did the previous two days, by reading an opening statement on the quarterback situation. “All three quarterbacks practiced today,” he said. “Ryan Tannehill was limited and he will be listed as questionable on the injury report that you will receive in a few moments. We’re going to make a decision as soon as we have enough relevant information to make a good decision and we have no timetable on that.”

## Second-year running back Daniel Thomas had his second most carries of the season last week at the Jets with 15 for 42 yards and a touchdown, which was a good sign. He has suffered two concussions and had lost a couple of fumbles, so his ability to return to his physical running style impressed Philbin. “You want to have confidence in your guys and not that we didn’t have confidence in Daniel, but let’s be honest, he had a couple of fumbles and that’s a concern to a coach and all of us and it should be a concern to the player, too,” he said. “So to be able to get him in the game and get him 15 carries and see him run the ball with good pad level and good ball security, certainly we felt good about that.”

## Today appeared to be classic 1980s rewind day during stretching and warm-ups as three popular songs from that decade were played inside the bubble. Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me,” featuring Michael Jackson got things started with “Cold Blooded” by Rick James next. Prince closed things out with “When Doves Cry.”

## Philbin revealed that he sometimes has input on the music being played inside the bubble, but confirmed he was not behind today’s selections. “I have had a couple,” Philbin said. “The first one I had was Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A Changin’” but there are only a few of us around here who would remember that one.”
