“The kids were very excited about the visit because a lot of them love football,” New Renaissance Middle Assistant Principal Ricardo Angus said. “They were really excited to participate in real NFL-type drills. Exercise for kids these days is almost non-existent, so for the kids to come out and do something they like and exercise at the same time, it’s a big benefit to them.”
The students received an inspiring speech from Youth Programs Coordinator Troy Drayton about the importance of being Dol-Fit, which stresses staying in school, exercising daily and making positive choices. Then, the children participated in five football drills, ranging from throwing and catching to how to hold a football.
“We had an excellent experience at New Renaissance Middle today,” Drayton said. “There was great energy from the students, staff and faculty. We appreciate the opportunity to come out and make a difference.”
New Renaissance Middle School, which contains a student body of 1,200, offers a healthy food menu in its cafeteria and promotes plenty of physical exercise activities.
