PREGAME NOTES: Carroll To Start At Cornerback; Other Notes

Posted Sep 15, 2013

Veteran cornerback gets his first start of the season at Indy.

With cornerback Dimitri Patterson battling a groin injury suffered last week at the Cleveland Browns, Nolan Carroll will start in his place. This will be a little déjà vu for the fifth-round pick out of Maryland as he also started in the same stadium last November.

Miami’s inactives are identical to last week against the Browns, with rookie cornerbacks Will Davis and Jamar Taylor joined by third-string quarterback Pat Devlin guard Danny Watkins, second-year linebacker Josh Kaddu, running back Mike Gillislee and rookie guard Dallas Thomas.

For Indianapolis, safety Delano Howell, linebacker Kavell Conner, center/guard Khaled Holmes, offensive tackle Jeff Linkenbach, tight end Dwayne Allen, wide receiver David Reed and defensive tackle Montori Hughes are inactive.

In keeping with the practice of rotating team captains game-by-game, quarterback Ryan Tannehill was joined at midfield by safety Chris Clemons and punter Brandon Fields. … For the second straight week, the Dolphins are wearing their white-on-white uniforms. … There are some familiar faces on the other sideline this afternoon and all four of the players are starters. Cornerback Vontae Davis, center Samson Satele, left guard Donald Thomas and outside linebacker Erik Walden also donned the aqua and orange at one point in their careers, with Davis, Satele and Thomas all draft choices. Assistant special teams coach Brant Boyer played for the Dolphins in 1994.
