PREGAME NOTES: O-Line Welcomes Back Pouncey; Other Notes

Posted Dec 1, 2013

Third-year center returns as starter after missing two games.

Two weeks of watching from the sidelines was enough to drive Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey crazy after having started the first 41 games of his career. Today he is back where he belongs.

Pouncey will start at center in this first of two meetings with the New York Jets after making a full recovery from the illness that sidelined him against the San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers at home. He confirmed last week that he lost 15 pounds during that time but now he has just about gained it all back and is confident he will be able to go the distance at MetLife Stadium.

Unfortunately, cornerback Dimitri Patterson, running back Daniel Thomas (ankle) and rookie cornerback Jamar Taylor (hamstring) were not healthy enough to play and were ruled out for this game on Friday. The other inactive players for Miami are third-string quarterback Pat Devlin, guard Danny Watkins, offensive lineman David Arkin and rookie defensive tackle A.J. Francis.

Nolan Carroll, coming off of his best game of the season, will start at cornerback in place of Patterson and the official flip card for the game does not show the following changes that were made to the roster – safeties D.J. Campbell and Jordan Kovacs being added to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and offensive tackle Jonathan Martin being removed and placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list.

For the Jets, quarterback David Garrard, wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, linebacker Garrett McIntyre, guard William Campbell, tight end Chris Pantale, offensive tackle Ben Ijalana and offensive tackle Oday Aboushi are inactive.

THIS AND THAT

Punter Brandon Fields, safety Jimmy Wilson and running back Lamar Miller are Miami’s team captains today and will head to midfield for the coin toss before the opening kickoff. … This is the 96th meeting between the two AFC East rivals and the Dolphins are hoping to prevent the Jets from earning their 50th win while trying to improve to 46-49-1 overall in the series.
