Posted Dec 22, 2013

Third-year running back is toughing it out with injured ankle.

With the wind and rain possibly grounding both team’s passing attacks today, a solid running game is imperative and that is why Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas is toughing it out today.

Thomas, in his third season out of Kansas State, didn’t practice this week until Friday due to a sore ankle that he aggravated in last week’s 24-20 home win over the New England Patriots. But knowing that his team could clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Bills, he is active and ready to team up with Lamar Miller in the backfield.

Third-string quarterback Pat Devlin, rookie running back Mike Gillislee, cornerbacks Chris Owens and Jalil Brown, guard Danny Watkins, offensive lineman Davis Arkin and rookie defensive tackle A.J. Francis are inactive for Miami.

For the Bills, quarterback E.J. Manuel, wide receiver Stevie Johnson, safety Aaron Williams, offensive lineman Mark Asper, offensive lineman Antoine McClain, defensive back Brandon Smith and running back Ronnie Wingo are inactive.

Center Mike Pouncey, defensive end Cameron Wake and punter Brandon Fields are Miami’s team captains today and will head to midfield for the coin toss. … This is the 100th meeting overall between the two teams and Miami leads the series, 58-40-1. … The Dolphins are wearing their aqua pants for just the second time this season and it happens to be in back-to-back road games. They debuted the pants at Pittsburgh two weeks ago in their 34-28 victory.
