Each offseason all 32 NFL teams take a step back and re-evaluate the makeup of their rosters, regardless of where they might have finished in the final standings. The Miami Dolphins are no different.
“We’re excited about the guys that we added, specifically Dion Jordan today,” Philbin said at the end of the night. “Again, it’s just we did a thorough review of everything that we did. We looked at a lot of different things, a lot of different combinations. We didn’t know if all of them were going to be able to work or not work. Our staff has spent a lot of time analyzing what we did well, what we didn’t do well, what’s available, what isn’t available, all those things. There were a lot of factors that we took into consideration in all the moves that we made.”
The player acquisition process is not yet complete, continuing with the second and third round of the draft today and then Rounds 4-7 tomorrow. After that any undrafted college free agents are fair game and there still is the possibility of trades and veteran free agents.
Next week Philbin will get his first look at the incoming rookies during a three-day mini-camp, but he’s already gotten to see a little of what the new free agents bring to the table. Miami’s voluntary offseason conditioning program began on April 15th, so the liked of linebackers
“I’m delighted about the guys we’ve had here,” Philbin said. “I don’t know the exact number. I think it’s around 98 percent and I think it’s been excellent attendance. We’ve had some classroom work. We’ve had a lot of strength and conditioning work and I’m really delighted with what the guys have done so far.”
