Tannehill's A.C.E.S. Mentoring Group Has Fun Day At SeaWorld

Posted Mar 20, 2014

The day trip was a reward for the great efforts the high school students in their Tannehill’s A.C.E.S. mentor program made in school, sports and their community.

The sun had not yet risen from the sky as Ryan and Lauren Tannehill along with their Tannehill’s A.C.E.S. boarded a bus for a day of fun at Orlando’s SeaWorld.

Tannehill’s A.C.E.S. (Achieving Community Education Success) program consists of 25 sophomores from American Senior High School and focuses on rewarding the participating students who strive for good grades and take on an active role in their community. The Tannehills, who are active participants in their South Florida community themselves, spend time with the group by hosting a monthly event rewarding the students with fun and also taking them out into the community to give back.

A few hours later as the bus pulled into SeaWorld, the group anxiously exited and got their day off to a fast start with a ride on the Manta roller coaster. Next up was a visit to the biggest attraction in SeaWorld history, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. The exhibit set the stage for a chilly experience as the group got on a ride and explored the penguin exhibit all set in chilly temperatures. The adventure allowed the group to experience the world through the eyes of the penguins. At the end of the exhibit, the Tannehills were invited to go behind-the-scenes and interact up close and personal with the penguins.

The fun and learning did not stop there. After enjoying lunch, the group really got a hands-on experience feeding stingrays and dolphins. Throughout the day, SeaWorld employees escorted the group through the grounds and engaged them with different experiences, rides, shows, and opportunities to get to learn about the animals.

“It’s a great experience for the kids, and I think they’ve all had a lot of fun and learned a lot of things about the marine animals at the same time,” Ryan Tannehill said. “There are so many cool animas here and SeaWorld does such a great job educating us along the way so we have an understanding of what the animals do and the kind of work that goes into taking care of them.”

The sun started to slowly set in the sky and before long it was time for the group to get back on the bus and make the trip back to South Florida. Everyone left SeaWorld having had a lot of fun while learning, and looks forward to the next adventure with Tannehill’s A.C.E.S.
