Dressed in their “Wallace’s Winners” T-shirts, 10 students from Cutler Bay Academy gathered inside Laser Quest in Sunrise excited and ready to take part in Mike Wallace’s “Back to School” event.

The students were selected to take part in the event had to meet specific criteria. They were economically disadvantaged, and also maintained a grade point average B or higher for the previous school year.

Wallace was joined by teammates Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Gibson, Philip Wheeler, Marvin McNutt, Brian Tyms, Rishard Matthews, Jason Weaver, and members of the MDWO.

Soon after the students and Miami Dolphins players became acquainted, it was time for the fun!

The afternoon kicked off with Wallace praising the students for their academic achievements.

Together the group then filed into the laser tag area where they strapped on their gear and went inside for the bulk of the afternoon.

Once the game concluded, the group emerged and headed into the dining area where Mike Wallace surprised the unsuspecting students with SURFACE tablets to help them with their academics for this school year.

“When I was younger, I used to do well in school and I always wanted a gift," Wallace said. "Sometimes I got it, sometimes I didn’t, but for people who you don’t really know to acknowledge that you’re doing well, I am just grateful. I am happy to be able to do it for the kids, I’m happy they are excited, and we are having fun.”
