Wallace: It's Going To Be Exciting

Posted Dec 3, 2013

Wide receiver Mike Wallace speaks with the media about his return to Pittsburgh this weekend. Watch as he talks about what kind of welcome he's expecting and why he's not too worried about it.

(On how emotional his return to Pittsburgh will be) – “It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be my first time going back, I’m excited about it. I already know how my welcome is going to be, it’s not going to be too pretty, I’m looking forward to it though. It’s exciting.”

(On if he thinks the fans will be friendly with him, what did he do to them) – “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask them.”

(On if he expects the crowd to ‘boo’) – “Definitely. Yeah”

(On it being written that he was upset about not getting an extension) – “No, that’s a lie. Mike (Wallace) never said that, but it is what it is, I’m on a new team. I’m pretty sure they’re not going to like that too much, but we all have to move on, I’ve moved on. I’m excited about another challenge. We’re in the playoff race, it’s just another team standing in the way of our playoff hopes. I’m just going to go out there and try not to get too caught up into that. It’s going to be kind of tough but not try and get too caught up into who our opponent is but what we have working and the things we are working for.”

(On how effective he was against the Pittsburgh defensive backs when he was with the team) – “We used to go at it. They’re pretty good guys, they are smart, disciplined guys, it used to be a challenge every year in training camp. I’m excited about it though man they are some good players.”

(On if he’s already hearing from fans on the game via Twitter) – “Honestly, I don’t even get on twitter too much anymore. I try during the season not to be on there too much.”

(On what he would like to say to fans that may be mad at him) – “I wouldn’t say too much. Everything happens for a reason. At the end of the day, this is still a business. You can’t get caught up in too many feelings and emotions with that, you have to take the business as it is. Most people won’t understand that, so I wouldn’t even try to even explain.”

(On if going against someone in practice prepares them for a real game in the future against the same player) – “Honestly, I never really used to think that because while I was there, I always felt like I would be there forever so you never really think about being on the other side until you are on the other side. Now that I’m here, I’ve been thinking about it, so I’m excited about the challenge.”

(On if it’s better going back to Pittsburgh after having a few good games) – “Possibly, just because you’re starting to get into the flow of things. I think every week is a new challenge regardless of good game, bad game you’ve got to be ready to play the next week, no matter what happened the previous week.”

(On how he would describe the actual field at Heinz Field) – “It gets pretty bad in December. Pitt (University of Pittsburgh) plays there a lot, they’re season is winding down though. The field might be pretty good, it might be pretty bad. People always used to say we had the worst field in the league. I never really thought that because I was playing on it every week. It really didn’t make a difference to me, but the grass comes up a lot, its soft grass but you’ve got to be ready for it.”

(On what the magnitude of this game with playoff implications) – “That’s all that matters. Really, like I said I don’t want to get caught up into too much hype going into a personal battle with these guys because it’s not really about that. It’s about moving forward and these guys stand in the way of our playoff hopes. They’re another team in the way that has to go down.”

(On if anything has changed the last week with his numbers going up) – “Not really, it’s just opportunities, trying to make the best of them and make the most of my opportunities that’s all. Just feeling more comfortable every week with the offense and you know it’s time. It’s time to hit stride, no more warming up, no more of that it’s time to go. It’s the perfect time for it, get the kinks out of the way early but it’s December, it’s time to make a playoff run, got to make plays now. We don’t have time to wait.”

(On what he thinks is more emotional, the game in Pittsburgh or going back to New Orleans) – “I’ve played at New Orleans like two years ago, it was fun but I think this is a little different. I actually played there, played for the city, for the fans, so it’s a little bit different. I think this is a little bit more emotional, but like I said you can’t get caught up into that. You have to be eyes on the prize, we have to go out there and get a victory that’s all that really matters.”
