Head Coach Perry Fewell
(On how he is approaching the opportunity as an NFL head coach) - "My days are definitely full, not that they were not full when I was a coordinator. You have to get up a couple hours earlier and there's a lot of communication involved with not only my staff, but the training staff, administration, the players. It's not always football that you get to attend to, it's a lot of admin work."
(On what the team can do about losing leads in the fourth quarter) - "I think if our football team does what it's supposed to do, and we do it over time in the fourth quarter, and we play like we are capable of playing in the fourth quarter, that we can pull out some of these games and win them. We just have not done those things in the fourth quarter for whatever reason."
(On if there is a stronger sense of rivalry in this game in relation to the games with the rest of the division) - "I think it's on a greater level than with the other division teams simply because it is such a rivalry, the Buffalo-Miami series. I know there was a time period of maybe ten years where Miami won and Buffalo didn't. We've had some success during my tenure here against the Dolphins, and then last year Miami stole two straight and they stole one this year. The rivalry is continuing and I think our guys are keyed up for it, I know the Dolphins will be because they're playing well right now too."
(On his recollection of coaching with Tony Sparano in Jacksonville in 2002) - "Good football coach, very thorough, very knowledgeable, detailed in his work. You could see big things coming out of Tony, and I'm very happy for what he has done and what he's doing there."
(On why Ryan Fitzpatrick is starting over a healthy Trent Edwards) - "We just felt like Ryan gives us the best opportunity this week to win the football game. He's played pretty consistent for us, he's won two football games for us and he's played well. It's not like he hasn't played well, he's played well for us."
(On the struggle to overcome multiple injuries this season) - "It's a challenge each week. You would like to have consistency in your players and have your players be there, and it's just been inconsistent for us, and maybe that's part of our problem, that we're having those inconsistencies with players and the injuries, etc. It's been a challenge to put a competitive football team out and win football games with all of the injuries that we've had."
(On the difficulty plugging different people into the offensive line) - "It is very difficult, it is extremely difficult, and I think our offensive line coaches have done a nice job in getting guys and trying to mold them and get what we can get out of those guys for the week. That is the toughest challenge that we have faced in our offensive line, no doubt about it."
(On his relationship with Terrell Owens) - "We have a very good relationship. He's a competitor, I'm a competitor. He loves to win, I love to win, and he likes to get it right, I like to get it right. That part has been excellent. T.O.'s a competitor, he wants the ball, he thinks he can win when the ball is in his hands, and you want that type of player on your football team."
(On his feelings about the rumors regarding the Bills head coaching position) - "I really don't hear them, to be honest, because I'm focused on the Miami Dolphins this week and our rivalry game. I'm looking forward to playing Miami on Sunday, and all those other things, I don't even pay attention to."
(On if he is looking at the remaining games this season as a tryout for the head coaching job) - "I'm just looking to win one game on Sunday, and after we win that game, I'm looking to the next ballgame, bottom line. I want to win one football game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday."
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
(On if there is a special sense of rivalry for this game) - "We have some guys in the building who really know and appreciate the history, one of them being Alex Van Pelt, who's the offensive coordinator, my quarterback coach. He has really given me a sense of the rivalry. Coach [Perry] Fewell also touched on it this morning in our team meeting, talking about how significant it was and the history behind it."
(On if he is aware Miami beat Buffalo 20 straight times at one point) - "I am, I am."
(On what Alex Van Pelt has meant to the offense) - "I think that Alex has done a great job this year…we've had a tough time offensively for a variety of reasons, but he's a guy that really understands the game. He's played the game, he's coached it, and he loves input from the players. I think that's one thing that makes him very good at what he does, and he's going to be very successful in the future. He's not an egomaniac, he's doesn't have to have everything his way, he's willing to take input from the players and allow us to have a hand in the game plan."
(On the offensive game plan ‘opening up' last game) - "It was nice. It was nice for us to get out there to throw the ball around a little bit and get some completions, especially some balls downfield. It was just one game, and it's one that we will try to build off of, but there were a lot of things that we could have done better or would like to have back, so we're going to have to continue to grow, obviously put more points on the board and hopefully get better."
(On the team's propensity for mistakes and penalties, specifically having two touchdowns called back on penalties last week) - "That's been hard for us to overcome. The penalties, as you mentioned, the two big touchdowns, game changing touchdowns that got called back because of penalties. It's just been that kind of year for us, and right now we're not a good enough team to overcome that stuff. We're looking to eliminate it, and if not, we're going to be the team that's going to make more big plays."
(On the importance of Terrell Owens having a productive game last week) - "Obviously we want to get him the ball as much as possible, the same with Lee Evans on the outside. He gets us going, he creates a lot of excitement not only with the fans, but with his teammates as well when he's out there catching the ball, and obviously brings a lot of enthusiasm to the game."
(On what he has seen from Dolphins rookie corners Sean Smith and Vontae Davis) - "They've played really well all year, and the one thing that jumps out is [that] the coaching staff does not have any fear in them, and they don't have any fear. They play physical and aggressive, and I think they've done a real good job all year."
(On if he thinks too much is made of Owens' behavior when he gets upset) - "I can only speak for what I've seen out of him personally, what I've seen this year. He's been a great teammate. He's a guy that's passionate, a guy that wants the ball, but at the same time, he's willing to step up and admit when he's wrong. The times I've seen him on the sideline get heated this year, it's because he's a competitor, and because he wants the ball, which is something that you want in a teammate."
(On the impact injuries have had on the team, specifically the offensive line) - "We had a young line coming into the year, we've been kind of playing musical chairs in terms of having to shift guys around. I'll tell you, everybody we've had in there, they've played their tails off, and that's all you can ask, really. We'll have some new guys in there this week. That being said, they're going to be ready to go and I have the utmost confidence in them."
(On what new head coach Perry Fewell has brought to the team) - "I think enthusiasm, just a different energy, and passion. That's kind of what he's tried to bring and try to have rub off on us."
(On if anything has changed as far as who is in control of the offense since Fewell's appointment as head coach) - "Nothing has changed in terms of offense, meetings, or anything, it's Alex still running the show."
(On losing so many close games this year) - "The biggest issue we've had all year is finishing games in the fourth quarter. We seem to have a problem with that, and it's something we've been trying to address. Really, it just comes down to executing, it's very simple. Converting on third downs and being able to establish that running game and really start to grind it out in the fourth quarter, and that's what we're hoping to do to improve our fourth quarter consistency."
(On the injury to Marshawn Lynch last week and if he returned to the game after leaving the field) - "He left the game and did not return."
(On if Lynch will play this week) - "That's for our coaches, I have no idea."
