Head Coach Sean Payton
(On general thoughts on game) - "A couple injury notes first - Jon Stinchcomb came out of the game for a short period with a knee bruise, he returned. And then we've got two players Sedrick Ellis and Heath Evans who couldn't finish with knee injuries and we'll see where they're at. I could go through all the numbers here, and you guys all saw the game, there were a lot of things we didn't do well in the first half, but Miami did a lot of things very well. I was just proud of the way we kind of hung in there and hung in there, and we walked about playing a full game, four quarters, and I think we did that today. We played our better football in the second half, obviously we had to come from behind, and I'm just proud of the way they responded because there weren't a lot of things going well in that first half."
(On if this was one of the more rewarding wins he has had as a head coach) - "They're all rewarding, but when you have to come back against a good team, I think Miami's a very good team, and they're very well coached coming off a bye, and we knew this coming in that it was going to be a tough game. We've got a lot of respect for them and I'm just proud of the way we were able to get the win, hang in there and keep it close. All of us, coaches included, did a number of knucklehead things and we'll look at the tape tomorrow. We were able to overcome."
(On if at the end of the first half, when the Dolphins called a timeout, were you going to go for the Field Goal) - "It was a special situation. If no one calls a timeout, they're going to whistle it ready for play and it's got to be ready snap hold kick. When they called the timeout, Drew (Brees) spent a little while in my ear and he felt confident he could get the ball over. We were right there on the six-inch line, so we went ahead with that call, and he made a real good play. We were prepared to kick it initially, obviously we had enough time after the timeout was called to give some thought to that and change our minds."
(On how big it was to play as poorly as they did in the first half to be only down by 14 going into the half) - "Well, we did a lot of things wrong. We did a poor job in protecting, we were in third in longs and went 1-for-8 at the half they were 5-for-8, so that kind of tells you a little bit about how the first half went. It seemed like most of those third downs were 10 or more, we got some penalties, we just didn't play well, but I think Miami did a very good job. The score at the end of the half was significant obviously, to get us close and guys just kept fighting back in the second half."
(On the defense giving their offense the ball back quickly) - "There were a lot of things that took place during that game, we turned it over early, we had the big kickoff return, defensively we came up with turnovers in the second half, and I just told the team collectively that it was one of our better second halves we've played in all three phases. We had to play that way though, because obviously our margin for error changed with the 14 point deficit."
(On defending the Wildcat) - "When you look at the challenges it presents, I was pleased with the time of possession, not in the first half but in the second half and we ran the ball well in the second half. Mike Bell gave us a little juice and I thought that was important."
(On being number one in the NFC) - "Well it's not the BCS and I think in the BCS you got to pay attention to that but it means nothing after six weeks. We've got a lot of football left. The Alabamas and the LSUs and the Ohio States, well it means something for them, but it doesn't mean anything for us."
(On how they made it more of a two-dimensional game in the second half) - "I hated that in the first half we got to those third downs and I did a poor job of making it a little too much one-dimensional. We did want to throw the ball early against this team but they did a good job with their pressure. Credit them because they were able to hit Drew (Brees). I was pleased with how we blocked in the second half and how we ran the ball and I thought that was important to give us more balance."
RB Mike Bell
(On if this was one of the more rewarding wins of the season) "Definitely. Everyone thinks we're a finesse team and were always up early, but here we showed that we can come from behind. There was a major lead at half time, and we came back, and persevered, and we stuck together, and we stuck to the game plan, and came up victorious."
(On what went wrong offensively in the first half) "I just think we couldn't get a rhythm together. There were a lot of three and outs. We kept shooting ourselves in the foot. A couple times we had a third and long, couldn't get the running game going, because there were a lot of third and longs. Once we got back to our game plan, we got our offense going."
(On how it feels to be 6-0) "Feels great. You know, we have a great locker room, a great team, and we stuck by each other. We had a great attitude coming into half time. We weren't feeling sorry for ourselves. It was a good game."
QB Drew Brees
(On his thoughts on the game) - "The things that I usually look at are third down conversions, yards per carry rushing, and just how we spread it out in the passing game. Obviously the first half was something to be forgotten. We knew coming here with the Dolphins coming off a bye week that we were going to get their best stuff and sure enough we did. To combine with that everything that could have gone wrong did. The turnovers, the batted balls, the penalties and all those things just gave us no chance. All of a sudden you are sitting there, you look at the scoreboard and it's 24-3 and you just say how did this game get out of hand like this, but, I will say that there was really no doubt on our sideline that we would come back and win this game. That's all that we've talked about, finishing football games. We hadn't been in a situation like this in a while and not too many times are you down 21 points. We all knew that they had given us their best shot, we had played just about as bad as we could have played and all we had to do is string a few drives together. Honest to god we knew it was going to happen and sure enough it did."
(On winning against Miami for the first time) - "I was 0-3, once here, once in San Diego and once we had fires in San Diego so we played in Arizona. It was good to get a win against them and to come here and do it. This is a tough place to play, especially when you come in and the heat index is around 100 degrees. There's one team that practices and plays in this weather like they do and it's us. I felt like our conditioning really paid off. I think that this team is use to teams coming in here, especially this time of year, and wearing down by the fourth quarter but I felt like we were the stronger team in the second half."
(On getting the touchdown at the end of the first half) - "Regardless of whether they called a timeout or not, the play was getting reviewed so the clock stops. We would get everything in order and we can get out there, even if they start the clock the minute we all get set, we would just spike it and get another chance for at least one more play. I knew we could get the ball in on a QB sneak and I knew what a huge momentum boost that would be for our team going into half 24-10 having just scored a touchdown. An unlikely touchdown when we had no timeouts, 12 seconds to go and sitting at their 30 yard line. It was a huge boost for us going in at half time. If you could have been in here at halftime it was, hey we have them right where we want them."
(On being on top of the NFC) - "All that it means is that we are promised 10 more games. Hopefully we can take one at a time and keep this winning streak going."
WR Marques Colston
(On the difference in his teams play from the first half to the second half) - "We came into halftime knowing that we didn't play our best football, for thirty minutes, but our emphasis since the offseason has been to finish strong. We knew that if we came in here and regrouped, we still had thirty more minutes to play. We just came out after that and played the way we were capable of playing."
(On what Coach Peyton said to them at halftime) - "I think every man on this team knew exactly what needed to be done and we knew coming in that it was going to be a sixty minute fight. It was nothing he really had to say; just every man in here stepped up and took accountability."
(On the Dolphins secondary) - "There a good secondary, definitely, you know when a team pressures the quarterback like that; it really helps the secondary out. We played a good team, we just outlasted them over sixty minutes."
(On his touchdown catch) - "It's really just another example of Drew finding the open man."
LB Scott Shanle
(On having to come back in a game for the first time this year) - "Obviously if you don't have to be behind, you don't want to be behind but this was a test that we haven't faced yet and the way we responded we couldn't be more happy. We talk about finishing strong and we definitely did that today."
(On how the team had to overcome adversity) - "Yeah, I think of the character of the guys on the team. There is never any quit, there is never anybody that doesn't believe that we can't win a game. No matter what point in the game it is or what the score is, and this is the first time with the 2009 Saints that we faced that and we couldn't be any happier about how we responded."
(On the defenses mentality when you are down in a game by 21 points) - "Our mentality on this defense is why can't we make a big play and score, and we did that. Obviously you only get so many possessions in a game for your offense and if you can score on defense that is a huge momentum swing. I am proud of the guys and the way we responded."
(On whether he thinks Miami played their best game) - "I think they gave us there best shot early on. If you relate it to boxing they kind of stung us a little bit and we were on our heels a little bit and once we settled down and made plays you saw the real Saints out there."
LB Jonathan Vilma
(On whether this is a season defining game) - "Right now this is definitely the best win we have had. I know we have had a bunch of blowouts against some tough teams and we beat them handily, but this one by far is the best win we have had so far."
(On the defenses effort against the Wildcat) - "I thought we did a very good job against the wildcat. I think Ricky Williams had a 70 yard run. Besides that, they had about a buck forty rushing minus that 70 yard run is 70 yards rushing, including the Wildcat. So I thought we did a good job against them, but you have to take your hats off to them because they know how to run the ball."
(On coming back to play in his hometown) - "It is especially good when all of my family is in the stands and we can come out with a victory. It feels good. I can go out there and say hi to them with a victory, its good."
