PRESS RELEASE: DCC IV Passes 2,000 Rider Mark

Posted Oct 16, 2013

DCC IV is scheduled to take place DCC weekend on November 2nd and 3rd

Dolphins Cycling Challenge CEO Michael Mandich announced today that more than 2,000 riders have registered for DCC IV, scheduled to take place DCC weekend on November 2nd and 3rd. Mandich was joined by Nat Moore, Senior Vice President, Miami Dolphins, Dr. Stephen D. Nimer, Director, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center/UMHC, Stuart Miller, DCC Chairman of the Board and Barbara Woolverton, a breast cancer survivor, Sylvester patient and DCC rider in making this announcement.

“We are in unprecedented territory,” said Dolphins Cycling Challenge CEO, Michael Mandich. “While our ridership has grown considerably the first three years, we know this year will be historic. We have raised almost $4,000,000 since we began this great event and this year more than 2,000 people from the tri-county area have come together to tackle cancer and support the community. I am inspired by each and every one of our riders.

“I know my dad Jim Mandich would be enormously proud of where this event has gone. … To put in perspective, year one we had 311 participants throughout the two-day ride. We are eclipsing that on a weekly basis now. We are probably going to hit about 350 riders this week. Last year we had 1,444. Right now we sit at about 2,100 and we’ll surpass the 2,500-rider goal that we set out at the beginning of this year, which is really exciting.”

Local companies such as Lennar, Related, FPL, AutoNation, American Airlines, SunTrust, Regions Bank, Duffy’s, United Healthcare, Publix, Turnberry, and South Florida Ford have already committed to building teams to ride and support the event.
