PRESS RELEASE: Dolphins Make Roster Moves

Team signs pair of defensive backs.



The Miami Dolphins have signed free agent cornerback Justin Rogers and also signed safety Michael Thomas off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. To make room for Rogers and Thomas on the roster, the team has placed defensive backs Dimitri Patterson and R.J. Stanford on the Reserve/Injured list.

The 5-11. 181-pound Rogers comes to the Dolphins after spending time with the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills in 2013. He originally entered the NFL with the Buffalo Bills as a seventh round pick (206th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft. As a member of the Bills, Rogers appeared in 34 games with seven starts including the first five games of the 2013 season and recorded73 tackles, 12 passes defensed, three interceptions and 3 tackles for loss. Rogers was waived by the Bills on November 19, 2013 and claimed on November 20, 2013 by the Texans. He saw action in one game for Houston prior to being waived on November 28, 2013.

A four-year letterman at Richmond (2007-10), he appeared in 52 career games with the Spiders. For his career at Richmond he registered 163 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, 28 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, three forced fumbles and one blocked kick. Rogers became the second player in Colonial Athletic Association History to be named First-Team All-Conference selection four consecutive years. Born on January 16, 1988, Rogers attended Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The 5-11, 196-pound Thomas joins Miami’s roster after spending the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He originally entered the NFL with the 49ers as an undrafted college free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft. He was released by San Francisco on August 31, 2012 following training camp and was signed to the team practice squad on September 1, 2012 where he spent the remainder of the 2012 season. Thomas spent the 2013 offseason and training camp with 49ers prior to being released on August 31, 2013. He was again signed to the practice squad on September 2, 2013 where he remained for the first 14 weeks of the 2013 season.

A four-year letterman at Stanford (2008-11), he saw action in 51 games with 24 starts. During his collegiate career he recorded 189 tackles, 5 INTs, 12.5 TFLs, 30 PDs, 2 FRs, 3 FFs and 2.5 sacks for the Cardinal. Born on March 17, 1989, Thomas attended Nimitz High School, in Houston, Texas.
