The 5-9, 180-pound Owens joins Miami after spending the first 15 weeks the 2013 season with the Cleveland Browns where he saw action in 12 games with two starts, recording 51 tackles (40 solo), three passes defensed, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Brown originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft selection (90th overall) of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2009 NFL Draft. Owens spent four seasons with the Falcons (2009-12) appearing in 59 games prior to signing as a free agent with the Browns on March 22, 2013. He was placed on the Reserve/Injured list by the Browns on December 3, 2013. Over the course of his career he has appeared in 71 career games with 14 starts while registering 150 tackles, 15 passes defensed, 3.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Owens attended the San Jose State University (2005-08) where he appeared in started 38 of the 48 games in which he appeared. He totaled 228 tackles, 20 passes defensed, 13 interceptions and one sack for the Spartans.
