PRESS RELEASE: Dolphins To Play Raiders In London In 2014

Posted Oct 24, 2013

Raiders to host Dolphins as part of three 2014 International Series games at London’s Wembley Stadium.

The Miami Dolphins have been selected to once again participate in the NFL’s International Series as the team will face off with the Oakland Raiders at London’s historic Wembley Stadium during the 2014 NFL Season. The announcement was made today by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at a luncheon hosted by the Sports Journalists’ Association in London. The exact date and time of the game against the Raiders, who are the designated home team, will be announced at a later date.

“With our historically strong following internationally, the Dolphins are proud to once again represent the league abroad as one of the six participants of the 2014 International Series,” stated Miami Dolphins Chairman of the Board/Managing General Partner Stephen M. Ross. “The opportunity to again connect with our many fans overseas and to expose a growing global audience to the sport we all love is something that our entire organization will fully embrace.”

The contest against the Raiders will be the second regular season visit by the Dolphins to the United Kingdom since the International Series began in 2007 and the third regular season game played outside the United States in the franchise’s 48 year history.

The first came on October 28, 2007 when Miami hosted the New York Giants in the inaugural International Series game in front of 81,176 fans at Wembley Stadium. The matchup of the two storied franchises was the first ever regular season NFL game played in the United Kingdom.

In addition to the first ever International Series game in London in 2007 against the Giants, the Dolphins also participated in the Bills Toronto Series as they faced the Buffalo Bills on December 7, 2008 in Toronto, Canada.

The Dolphins have a long history of competing on the international stage. Dating back to the 1988 preseason the team has been a part of six games that have taken place on international soil– the first four of which were a part of the American Bowl series which the NFL staged during the preseason between 1986 and 2005.
