The Miami Dolphins held their annual Flag Football Camp this past summer at the Dolphins training facility in Davie, FL. About five hundred and fifty (550) boys and girls ages 6-14 participated in this year's camp that included a fun-filled, week-long Dolphins experience focusing on football training, teamwork building, and the importance of education. The camp's goal was for kids to develop skills that would help them to succeed both on and off the athletic field. In addition to football drills and flag games, kids were able to meet several Miami Dolphins players, alumni and coaches including Miami Dolphins quarterbacks Trent Green and John Beck. Throughout the week, the special guests shared their personal experiences with campers and emphasized the importance of education, physical fitness, and making positive choices.

This year's camp included new and improved features such as the use of our brand new, state-of- the-art, $13 million, indoor training facility. In addition, nine of the flag camp teams were coached by former Miami Dolphins players, Derrick Rodgers (1997-2002), Bobby Harden (1990-1993), Troy Drayton (1996-1999), Shawn Wooden (1996-1999, 2001-2004), James Pruitt (1986-1988, 1990-1991), Mark Higgs (1990-1994), Anthony Harris (1996-1999), Calvin Jackson (1994-1999) and Don Brown (1986). In a Flag Camp first, one lucky team was coached by our very own Kyle Eckle, #40 on the Dolphins roster.

This year welcomed kids from all backgrounds and all levels of experience. Some were five-year Flag Camp veterans; others were new to the sport of football, but all shared in a unique Dolphins experience. During the week, the campers participated in an NFL style combine, a Gatorade Jr. Training Camp, specially designed football drills, and of course, the famous Miami Dolphins Flag Football Tournament where kids competed for the chance to play in the halftime show of the Dolphins vs. Buccaneers game. On Friday, kids, coaches, friends and family all came together to enjoy an Outback Steakhouse banquet and a Flag Camp awards ceremony.

The Dolphins Flag Football camp provided an opportunity for kids to learn and develop their athletic skills in a safe and challenging environment. The campers learned about football, sportsmanship, and how to take control of their own future. Each child received a 2007 Dolphins reversible flag jersey, five tickets to the Tampa Bay pre-season game, authentic NFL wide receiver gloves, and a Dolphins tee-shirt, backpack and poster.

Stay tuned as the Flag Camp 2007 takes over Dolphin Stadium on August 25th when the Miami Dolphins host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Every Flag Camp participant received a special invite onto the field for the pre-game festivities, player introductions and National Anthem.
