MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receivers Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson, re-signed cornerback/safety Walt Aikens and long snapper John Denney and released center Mike Pouncey.
Amendola has played nine NFL seasons, spending four in St. Louis (2009-12) and the past five in New England (2013-17). He's played in 111 career games with 46 starts and recorded 426 receptions for 4,109 yards (9.6 avg.) and 19 touchdowns. Amendola won two Super Bowls (XLIX and LI) with New England and has played in 13 playoff games.
In 2017, Amendola totaled 61 receptions for 659 yards (10.8 avg.) and two touchdowns. His 659 receiving yards were the most during his five-year tenure in New England. He caught 26 passes for 348 yards (13.4 avg.), both career highs, in three playoff games last year, helping the Patriots win the AFC Championship for the second consecutive season.
Wilson played the first four seasons (2014-17) of his NFL career with Kansas City, where he saw action in 55 games with 26 starts and recorded 124 receptions for 1,544 yards (12.5 avg.) and seven touchdowns. In 2017, Wilson played in 13 games with seven starts and set career highs in receptions (42), receiving yards (554) and receiving touchdowns (3). He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on May 12, 2014.
Wilson was a four-year letterman (2010-13) and three-year starter at Georgia State where he became the school's all-time leader in nearly every receiving category, including receptions (175), receiving yards (3,190) and receiving TDs (23). He was a high school quarterback at Port St. Lucie (Fla.) High School.
Aikens has played in 62 career games with four starts during his four-year NFL career (2014-17), all with the Dolphins. He's totaled 31 tackles (24 solo), one interception, one pass defensed and one forced fumble. Aikens also plays special teams, where he has totaled 30 special teams stops and one blocked punt. He has scored on a blocked punt return and a defensive two-point conversion, both in 2016. Aikens originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (125th overall) by Miami in the 2014 NFL draft.
Denney has played in every game for the Dolphins since 2005, a span of 208 straight games, which is the longest streak in team history and tied for the third-longest streak among active NFL players. He joins Hall of Famers Dan Marino (242) and Jason Taylor (204) as the only Dolphins to play in 200 career games and his 208 appearances are second in team history. Denney has been selected to two Pro Bowls, following the 2010 and 2012 seasons. He originally joined the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2005.
Pouncey played seven seasons for the Dolphins (2011-17). He started 93 games with 81 starts at center and 12 at right guard. In 2017, Pouncey started all 16 games at center. He originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (15th overall) by Miami in the 2011 NFL draft.
