Who are your Dolphins offensive and defensive MVPs?
Lisa Johnson, OurTurf Football
I am going to have to say my offensive player of the year is WR Jarvis Landry. Jarvis demonstrated why he is the number one slot receiver in the league. Going into game 16, Landry was two receptions ahead of Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald for the league high. By the end of the game, Landry had secured that milestone of 112 catches. The 112th catch was a touchdown late into the fourth quarter. Fitz ended the season with 109. On the defense side of the ball, I am going with CB Xavien Howard. Howard is coming into his own. He is aggressive and can really get after the ball. I feel that we have watched him grow right in front of our eyes. Every game he gets better. None proved more so than the Monday Night game against the league's premier QB Tom Brady. Howard had two interceptions and seemed to have Brady's number all night long.

For 2017, the Miami Dolphins offensive MVP in my eyes beyond a shadow of a doubt is Jarvis Landry. Having 112 receptions and 9 touchdowns on the season, he was the one constant week in and week out for this Miami Dolphins offense. On the defensive side of the ball, the MVP in my opinion is Reshad Jones. Ndamukong Suh played great and I cannot knock anyone who says he was the defensive MVP this year, but to me Jones was a big part in the Dolphins run defense improving with his play near the line of scrimmage and stopping the run. As well as his big interception to seal the win vs the Falcons early this year, Jones is the one guy who makes many impact plays and week in and week out.

My defensive MVP for 2017 is Ndamukong Suh simply because he was the best player on the field. Offensively, my MVP is Kenyan Drake. When Jay Ajayi was traded away, the "next man up" strategy proved successful, and we had no noticeable drop-off in the success of the running game.

For me, the best defensive player of the year has to be Ndamukong Suh. Suh had a stellar season on the defensive line and appears to be getting better, which in and of itself is impressive. With the potential for more talent on defense next season, 2018 could shape up to be his best season as a professional. Suh was dominant all season long and showed a lot of improvement against the run while consistently getting pressure on the quarterback and closing the pocket. On offense, it has to be Jarvis Landry. Landry not only led the team in receptions and broke his own team receptions record, but led the NFL in receptions with 112. More importantly, however, is that Landry became a big red-zone threat, something the Dolphins have needed for a while. While Landry needs to do a better job with his emotions, there is no question that the Miami offense needed him more this year than in years' past.

This is going to be a landslide vote on both sides of the ball as there are really only two guys worthy enough to be called an MVP. Offensively, we have Jarvis Landry, who set a new team record with 112 receptions for 987 yards and 9 TDs. Too bad he just missed out on a 1,000-yard season, which should save us a few bucks in re-signing him. Landry is just a beast out there as he plays so hard, but I would like to see him cut down on the four fumbles. It is stunning that Landry wasn't voted to the Pro Bowl, but should wind up going anyway as a replacement. Defensively, we look no further than our own Pro Bowl safety Rashad Jones, who once again led the team in tackles with 94 plus 28 assists. Jones also picked off two passes and recovered three fumbles while scoring two TDs. It was great having Jones back this year after getting injured last season.

For my offensive MVP there are a few to choose from, and had it not been for injury I'd lean towards Ja'Wuan James here. Based on everything this season, however, despite Jarvis Landry setting the franchise record for catches, I have to go with Kenyan Drake. Following the Jay Ajayi trade that left fans reeling and given the rapid exit of Damien Williams to injury, Drake took on a heavy load and exploded on to the scene in ways that most wouldn't have expected as both a rushing and receiving threat. He was both exciting and effective despite the numerous injuries around him. For my defensive MVP, there were a lot of defensive players that had up and down stretches this season. Xavien Howard finished the year where he was one of the most effective lock down corners in the league, but got off to a rough start this season. Injuries hit big time on the defensive side of the ball as well, but the two guys that were absolutely solid throughout the year were Reshad Jones and Ndamukong Suh. I'll give Suh the edge because of what he did not only from his own side of the D-Line, but also for the work you can see that he puts in with Miami's three young defensive tackles and how they come to him - as well as the effect that he has on them.

Our choices for Offensive and Defensive MVPs are WR Jarvis Landry and DT Ndamukong Suh. Landry set a team record in receptions and was consistently the best player on the offensive of the ball. A team captain, Suh had his best and most dominant season as a Dolphin. While he definitely should have made the Pro Bowl in our opinion, PFF did recognize him as a 2nd team All-Pro.
