The 2026 season marks Slowik's 14th season in the NFL, including 13 years of coaching and one year as a video assistant.
The Dolphins featured 16 different pass catchers in 2025, which were tied for the seventh most in the NFL that season and for the sixth most in franchise history. Despite losing wide receiver Tyreek Hill to a season-ending injury in Week 4 and starting two different quarterbacks, the Dolphins finished sixth in completion percentage (67.2%), seventh in yards after catch per reception (5.6) and ninth in receptions per target (69.7).
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle finished the season with 64 receptions for 910 yards and surpassed 5,000 career receiving yards in 2025, becoming the sixth player in franchise history to reach that mark with the team. Meanwhile, tight end Darren Waller recorded 24 receptions for 283 yards (11.8 avg.) and six touchdowns under Slowik. Despite playing in only nine games, Waller's six touchdown receptions were tied for the fourth most by a tight end in a single season in franchise history and tied for eighth among NFL tight ends that season.
Pro Bowl running back De'Von Achane had a productive year in the pass game, ranking fourth in receiving yards among running backs (488), sixth in receptions (67) and tied for seventh in receiving touchdowns (four). Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers started the last three games of the regular season, completing 50-of-75 passing attempts (66.7 pct.) for 569 yards and three touchdowns. In his first career start against Cincinnati in Week 16, Ewers threw for 260 yards, the most by a Dolphins rookie quarterback in his first career start since Hall of Famer Dan Marino had 322 yards in his starting debut against Buffalo in 1983.
Prior to joining the Dolphins, Slowik was the offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans for two seasons (2023-24).
In 2024, Slowik oversaw an offense that helped the team to a 10-7 overall record, the AFC South title and the eighth playoff berth in franchise history. In his second season as offensive coordinator, the Texans progressed to the Divisional Round, marking only the second time in franchise history the team did so in back-to-back seasons (2012-13). Quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 336-of-532 passes for 3,727 yards and 20 touchdowns. His 336 completions ranked fifth-most in the AFC in 2024. Within Stroud's first two seasons, he set a franchise record for most passing yards (7,835) and completions (655) in that span while also becoming the first Texans quarterback to record two playoff wins. Three offensive players – tackle Laremy Tunsil, running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Nico Collins – earned Pro Bowl selections.
In his first year as Houston's offensive coordinator in 2023, Slowik directed an offense that ranked seventh in the NFL in passing yards per game (245.5) and second in pass plays over 25 yards (41). Slowik oversaw the development of Stroud in his rookie season and helped him compose a historic rookie season. Stroud recorded 319-of-499 passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, five interceptions and a passer rating of 100.8. He totaled 4,557 passing yards including the postseason, which was second-most by a rookie in NFL history. Stroud also led the NFL in pass yards per game (273.9). He was named the PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year for 2023. The Texans offense maintained possession of the ball, totaling the fewest turnovers by an NFL offense in 2023 (14). The Texans finished 11-8, won their seventh AFC South title and earned a playoff berth.
Prior to joining the Texans, Slowik spent six seasons (2017-22) with the San Francisco 49ers. He was promoted to passing game coordinator (2022) after serving a season as passing game specialist (2021) and two seasons as an offensive assistant (2019-20). Slowik's first role with the 49ers was on the other side of the ball as a defensive quality control coach (2017-18).
In 2022, Slowik oversaw a passing attack that ranked 13th in yards per game (226.8), fourth in passing yards per play (7.53) and seventh in interception rate (1.76 percent) despite the team starting three different quarterbacks throughout the course of the season. Slowik helped develop seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy, who started five games to finish the season with 1,374 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 107.3.
Slowik coached multiple players who achieved career highs in 2022. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk reached career highs in receptions (78), receiving yards (1,015) and touchdowns (8). Tight end George Kittle totaled 11 touchdown receptions en route to a Pro Bowl selection and second-team All-Pro honors.
In 2021, Slowik coached wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who earned his first Pro Bowl selection and first-team All-Pro honors following a season in which he tallied 77 receptions for 1,405 yards (18.2 avg.) and five touchdowns.
After first joining the 49ers staff as a defensive quality control assistant (2017-18), Slowik served as an offensive assistant during the 2019-20 seasons and worked closely with the quarterbacks. In 2019, the 49ers offense ranked first in rushing touchdowns (23), second in points per game (29.9), second in rushing yards per game (144.1) and fourth in total offense (381.1 yards per game). Slowik mentored quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who reached several career highs, including passing yards (3,978) and touchdowns (27) in a season.
Slowik's first NFL coaching role came with the Washington Commanders, where he spent three seasons as a defensive assistant (2011-13). He worked closely with linebacker Ryan Kerrigan who earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2012. In 2011, Slowik worked closely with a defensive unit that ranked fifth in the NFC in total defense with 339.8 yards allowed per game.
Prior to coaching, Slowik began his NFL career with Washington in 2010 as a video assistant. He was responsible for the breakdown of upcoming opponents and assisted the department's operations with the coaching and scouting staffs.
Slowik's family has had a history in the NFL. His father, Bob, has served as the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears, as well as for the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL and currently serves in that role with the Calgary Stampeders. His brother, Ryan, served on Miami's defensive coaching staff from 2022 to 2025. Slowik's other brother, Steve, is a pro scout for the San Francisco 49ers.
His mother, Carol, was a pioneer in the sport of women's track and field, claiming the National Collegiate and USTFF championship in the 100-meter hurdles in 1976, while holding the World Record in the 60-yard hurdles and owning the American record in both the 50-meter and 60-meter indoors hurdles. She was named All-American multiple times and competed as a member of the USA National Team.
Slowik attended Michigan Tech where he played wide receiver and studied biomedical engineering. He earned All-GLIAC honors in 2008.
