Fast Facts: Charlie Heck

The Dolphins have officially signed tackle Charlie Heck. Originally a fourth-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2020, Heck offers 67 games of experience with 29 starts. After playing out his rookie contract in Houston, Heck played with the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers in 2024 and appeared in all 17 games in 2025 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Heck is one of the tallest players in the league, standing 6-foot-8 and weighing around 310 pounds, with 34-inch arms.

Familiarity

Heck will reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik. He played in six games with four starts for the Houston Texans in 2023, all at right tackle. In 2024, with the 49ers, Heck played 60 snaps at right tackle and as a tackle eligible. Slowik cut his teeth as a coach in the San Francisco system under Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, providing Heck with prior knowledge of the core offensive principles he'll run in Miami. Adding a player like Heck can provide an on-field conduit between coach and player.

High school tight end and the jumbo package

In 2025, the Dolphins found success in the run game with the jumbo package, which brings a sixth offensive lineman onto the field in place of an eligible player. Heck has operated as the sixth man at a few of his stops. One of his best skills is the ability to connect to a block in space, which is often the job of the sixth man moving across the formation to kick out the end man on the line of scrimmage or execute a wham block in the backfield (a trap block on a defensive tackle).

Heck went to the University of North Carolina as a tight end but eventually converted to tackle.
