Pregame Notes: Dolphins - Patriots

As expected, the Dolphins starting offensive line against the New Enlgand Patriots on Sunday will have Sam Young at right tackle and Jesse Davis at right guard.

This will represent the third different position where Davis has started this season. He started the Baltimore and Oakland games at left guard before starting against Carolina and Tampa Bay at right tackle.

This will be Young's second start since joining the Dolphins last season. Ironically, his one start last season also came in Week 12 — a home matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Davis and Young will join Mike Pouncey, Ted Larsen and Laremy Tunsil as the starting offensive line.

This will be the fourth different starting offensive line combination the Dolphins have used this season.

Carroo back in: Wide receiver Leonte Carroo will be back in the lineup against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Carroo, the 2016 third-round draft pick from Rutgers, was inactive against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday when the Dolphins decided instead to go with fellow second-year wide receiver Rashawn Scott.

Scott, who made his first appearance of the season against Tampa Bay, is among the inactives Sunday.

Hewitt in action: Five days after being promoted to the active roster, linebacker Neville Hewitt will be in uniform against New England.

Hewitt's addition gives the Dolphins six linebackers, as he joins Kiko Alonso, Lawrence Timmons, Chase Allen, Mike Hull and Stephone Anthony.

Williams starts: Damien Williams again will get the start at running back.

The official depth continues to list Williams or Kenyan Drake as the starter, even though both have gotten pretty much an equal share of playing time on offense since the trade of previous starter Jay Ajayi.

Lineup notes: Quarterback David Fales will serve as the backup for the second time this season. He did it against the Baltimore Ravens exactly one month ago, Oct. 26. Tackle Zach Sterup, who signed with the Dolphins on Nov. 8, will be active for the first time in 2017. Corneback Jordan Lucas will be in uniform after being inactive against Tampa Bay last Sunday.

Late scratch: Rookie safety Maurice Smith did not make the trip to New England after becoming ill late in the week. Smith practiced Wednesday and Thursday but was out Friday. He was listed as questionable on the final injury

Inactive info: The list of Dolphins inactives includes the three players who were ruled out Friday: quarterback Jay Cutler (concussion), defensive end William Hayes (back) and guard Jermon Bushrod (foot). Along with Smith and Scott, the other inactives are cornerback Torry McTyer and G Isaac Asiata.

Opponent info: The list of New England inactives includes former Dolphins players WR Chris Hogan and RB Mike Gillislee, along with WR Matthew Slater, C David Andrews, T Marcus Cannon, TE Martellus Bennett and CB Eric Rowe.

This and that: Rookie defensive tackle Davon Godchaux will serve as a game captain along with season captains Mike Pouncey, Kenny Stills, Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and Michael Thomas. … The Dolphins will be wearing white jerseys with aqua pants.
