The Dolphins seized victory over the Commanders 16-13 in overtime to improve their record to 4-7 heading into the bye week. It was the first regular season NFL game contested in Spain, and the first international win for Miami since a 2014 victory over the Raiders at Wembley Stadium in London.
We go Inside the Numbers, presented by BDO, to look at the most notable individual metrics, milestones and more from the Dolphins win over the Commanders.
Brooks records impressive performance
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks racked up 20 total tackles in the Dolphins' victory over Washington, matching his career-high (2022 vs. Arizona with the Seattle Seahawks). The 20 stops were the most in an NFL game this season and the most ever in an international game.
Brooks's performance marked the first time a Dolphins player accumulated 20 tackles in a game since Hall of Famer Zach Thomas in 2006. With 125 tackles on the season, Brooks leads the NFL and is on pace for 193 stops, which would be the sixth most in a single season in NFL history. Brooks recorded 185 tackles in 2021, the 10th-most in league history.
Achane's weekly appointment
Running back De'Von Achane recorded his second-consecutive game with 100-plus rushing yards, totaling 21 carries for 120 yards. The performance marked his ninth-career game with 100 or more rushing yards and his 18th with 100-plus yards from scrimmage.
Achane is averaging 115.5 yards from scrimmage per game with nine total touchdowns on the season. He is fourth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage (1,270) and tied for seventh in total touchdowns.
Jack Jones calls game
Cornerback Jack Jones's first interception with the Dolphins set Miami up to win the game in overtime. He stepped in front of a pass from Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota, securing the pick and punctuating his best game of the season.
Per Next Gen Stats, Jones was targeted three times in coverage, allowing just one reception for negative three yards.
Special teams doing special things
The Dolphins now rank third in EPA per play (expected points added) in the NFL on special teams. Sunday, Miami recovered a fumble, kicked three field goals and forced two missed field goals by Commanders kicker Matthew Gay.
Cornerback Ethan Bonner recovered a muffed punt by Commanders returner Mike Sanristill. Kicker Riley Patterson made all three of his field goal attempts including the walk-off winner in overtime.
Milestones and achievements
Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick tallied seven tackles in the win, two for a loss. It marked the first game in his career with multiple tackles for loss.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made his 75th NFL appearance, completing 14-of-20 passes for 171 yards.
Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips recorded the first tackle for loss in his NFL career.
Punter Jake Bailey punted twice for 106 yards, including one punt inside the 20-yard line. His 45.7 net average is currently a career high, surpassing his 45.6 net in his 2019 All-Pro season with New England.
