Inside the Numbers: Dolphins run for 239 yards in win over division rival Jets

The Dolphins earned a fourth-straight victory via a defeat of the New York Jets Sunday at the Meadowlands. Miami improved to 6-7 on the season behind a dominant defense and run game.

We go Inside the Numbers, presented by BDO, to look at the most notable individual metrics, milestones and more from the Dolphins dominant win over the Jets.

Dolphins run for 239 yards, three touchdowns

Miami continued its run of strong rushing performances, totaling 41 carries for 239 yards and three scores in the win over the Jets. Running back De'Von Achane rushed for 92 yards, while tailback Jaylen Wright finished with 107. It was Miami's first game with two players rushing for more than 90 yards since Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams each went over 90 yards at New England on Sept. 21, 2008, a game best known for the emergence of the Wildcat offense.

Miami's offensive line powered the Dolphins to their fourth-straight game with 150-plus rushing yards, the longest such streak within a single season since Week 2 to Week 5 in 1977.

The Dolphins scored three rushing touchdowns with Achane, Wright and fellow running back Ollie Gordon II each finding the end zone. It marked the first time since 1978 that Miami had three running backs with a rushing touchdowns in a single game and just the fifth time in franchise history.

The Dolphins are averaging a league-leading 192.3 rushing yards per game since Week 10. That is nearly 20 yards per game better than the second-best mark (Chicago, 172.8 rushing yards per game) in the NFL.

Wright went over 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career. He became the 40th player to eclipse the century mark in Dolphins history.

Achane scored his 11th scrimmage touchdown of the season, marking his third-straight season with 11 total touchdowns. He's just the 12th player in NFL history to score at least 11 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons in the NFL.

Dominant defense

The Dolphins defense held a fourth-consecutive opponent to 17 points or fewer in Sunday's win. The Jets scored just 10 points, gained 207 yards of offense and converted only one of 12 third down opportunities.

The Jets ran 57 plays in the game with 10 resulting in a sack, interception or tackle for loss.

Defensive tackle Zach Sieler lead that way with 2.5 sacks, a career-best, in a performance in which the Dolphins posted a season-best six quarterback sacks.

Miami intercepted Jets quarterbacks three times in the win. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson picked off Tyrod Taylor while cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Ethan Bonner intercepted Brady Cook.

Tua defeats the Jets again

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 13-of-21 passes for 127 yards and a first quarter touchdown to wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. In his career, Tagovailoa is 7-0 as a starting quarterback against the rival Jets.

Tagovailoa and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (6-0 vs. Seattle) are the only active quarterbacks to be undefeated in games started against a current divisional opponent (minimum five games played).

Milestones and achievements

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks recorded five tackles Sunday. He surpassed Hall of Fame linebacker Zach Thomas for the most tackles by a Dolphin in their first two seasons with the team (285 for Brooks, 282 for Thomas) since 1994.

Tagovailoa and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle started in their 75th career game.
