Head Coach Brian Flores spoke to the media before practice at the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday. Here were some comments that stood out, along with some perspective:
"My favorite holiday. I think we have a lot to be thankful for."
— Flores said that his plans for Thanksgiving revolve around spending time with his wife and children. Among the things he mentioned being thankful for was his family being healthy and having the opportunity to coach the Dolphins. In keeping with his theme of being thankful, Flores said he suggested to his players that they writer letters to the people who have played a role in their lives.
"A lot of teams go through injuries like we're dealing with now, and other guys have got to step up."
— The Dolphins lost another significant contributor Wednesday when they placed receiver/returner Jakeem Grant on injured reserve. Flores, however, continues to refuse feeling sorry for himself because he said many teams go through the same thing. One example he mentioned was the Dolphins' next opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I'm not afraid to call (trick plays). Maybe that'll change. But I doubt it."
— Flores has shown a willingness to be daring in his first season as a head coach, whether it be fake punts or fake field goals, and he said it's simply a matter of not being afraid to call plays if he has a strong conviction that it could work.
"Let's improve, let's get better. In all areas."
— The goal for the final five games of the regular season is pretty simple, as far as Flores is concerned. Actually, it's the same goal he's had since the start of the regular season, which is simply for the Dolphins to just continually get better.
