The Miami Dolphins announced today that they have signed safety Jordan Colbert to the active roster off the practice squad and placed cornerback Cornell Armstrong on the injured reserve list. The team also signed cornerback Kendall Sheffield to the practice squad.
Armstrong has appeared in 43 career games with four starts in five seasons with Houston (2019-20), Atlanta (2022) and Miami (2018, 2025), totaling 45 tackles (32 solo) and seven passes defensed. He has also spent time on the practice squad with Atlanta (2021) and Las Vegas (2023-24). Armstrong entered the NFL as a sixth-round selection (209th overall) by Miami in the 2018 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at Southern Miss (2014-17), where he appeared in 47 games with 40 starts and totaled 146 career tackles (108 solo), five interceptions and 34 passes defensed.
Colbert has appeared in one career game with the Dolphins (2025), having made his NFL debut in Miami's Week 3 matchup at Buffalo, where he recorded one special teams tackle. He entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami in 2024 and spent the season on the practice squad. Colbert spent his final two collegiate seasons at Rhode Island (2022-23), where he appeared in 21 games with 11 starts and recorded 96 tackles (66 solo), a 0.5 sack, two interceptions, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. He began his collegiate career at Columbia (2018-21) and earned third-team All-Ivy League honors in 2021.
Sheffield has appeared in 49 career games with 20 starts with Atlanta (2019-21), San Francisco (2023), Tennessee (2023) and the New York Jets (2024). He has totaled 108 tackles (77 solo), six passes defensed and two forced fumbles in his career, along with six special teams tackles (four solo). Sheffield also spent time on the practice squad with Dallas in 2022 and spent part of the offseason program and training camp with Miami in 2025. He entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection (111th overall) by Atlanta in the 2019 NFL Draft. Sheffield played the last two seasons of his collegiate career at Ohio State (2017-18), where he appeared in 28 games with 17 starts and recorded 75 tackles (58 solo), two interceptions, 19 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He transferred from Blinn College, in Brenham, Texas, following the 2016 season.
