The Miami Dolphins announced today that they have released quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with a post-June 1 designation.
Tagovailoa has appeared in 78 career games with 76 starts in six seasons with Miami (2020-25), completing 1,647-of-2,421 passes (68.0 pct) for 18,166 yards and 120 touchdowns, along with 174 carries for 473 yards (2.7 avg.) and six rushing touchdowns. He also started one postseason game with the Dolphins in 2023. A Pro Bowl selection in 2023, Tagovailoa was a four-time team captain (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) for Miami and holds franchise records in career completion percentage (68.0), single-season completion percentage (72.9, 2024) and career passer rating (96.4). He was also the team's 2022 Don Shula Leadership Award winner and an Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award finalist in 2024. Tagovailoa led the NFL in passer rating (105.5) in 2022, passing yards (4,624) in 2023 and completion percentage (72.9) in 2024. He entered the league as a first-round selection (fifth overall) by Miami in the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama.
