Inside The Numbers: Jakeem Grant Signs Contract Extension

A statistical look at the career of Jakeem Grant, who signed a four-year contract extension with the Dolphins this morning.

  • In his first three NFL seasons, Grant has three special teams touchdowns, which is tied for most in Dolphins history with Ted Ginn Jr. and Freddie Solomon.
  • Grant was one of just two NFL players (N.Y. Jets Andre Roberts) with two return touchdowns last season — a punt return at Cincinnati in Week 5 and a kickoff return against Tennessee in Week 1 — despite playing just 10 games.
  • Grant became last year the first player in Dolphins history with a punt return and a kickoff return for a touchdown in the same season.
  • At the time of his injury last season, Grant led the NFL in kickoff return yards with 535 and he was second in total kick return yards.
  • Since he entered the NFL in 2016, Grant's 2,036 total kick return yards (kickoffs and punts) are fourth in the NFL, his 1,453 kickoff return yards are fourth, and his 583 punt return yards are sixth.
  • Grant is one of three players in the NFL with three or more kick returns for touchdowns over the past three seasons, along with Tyreek Hill of the Chiefs (5) and Andre Roberts of the Jets (4).
  • As a wide receiver, Grant has seen his catch total increase each season, from 0 in 2016 to 13 in 2017 and 21 in 2018.
  • Grant recorded his first 100-yard receiving game in Week 16 of the 2017 season against the Kansas City Chiefs when he gained 107 yards on four receptions.
  • Grant has two career games with at least one reception, one rushing attempt, one punt return and one kickoff return — against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 in 2017 and against the New York Jets in Week 2 in 2018.
  • Grant's career high in all-purpose yards in a game came in the 2018 opener against the Tennessee Titans when he had 162 (38 receiving, 125 on kickoff returns, minus-1 on punt returns).
