Miami Dolphins Make Roster Moves

The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed QB Tim Boyle to the active roster off their practice squad and placed long snapper Blake Ferguson on the reserve/non-football illness list. The team also signed long snapper Matt Overton to the practice squad.

Additionally, the team elevated Overton and cornerback Nik Needham to the active roster for Sunday's game.

Boyle has appeared in 21 career games with five starts with Green Bay (2019-20), Detroit (2021), Chicago (2022), the N.Y. Jets (2023) and Miami (2024). He appeared in Miami's Week 3 contest at Seattle this season as a reserve quarterback, completing 7-of-13 passes for 79 yards. Boyle has completed 121-of-196 passes (62.3 pct.) for 1,013 yards with four touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his career. He originally entered the league as an undrafted college free agent with Green Bay in 2018. Boyle finished his collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky, where he started all 11 games in 2017 and completed 201-of-327 passes for 2,134 yards with 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He transferred to EKU in 2016 from the University of Connecticut, where he played three seasons (2013-15).

Ferguson has played in 72 career games for the Dolphins during five seasons (2020-24), totaling eight special teams tackles (four solo) and one special teams fumble recovery. He also appeared in two postseason contests with Miami. Ferguson is a three-time Salute to Service Award nominee (2021, 2022, 2023). He entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (185th overall) by Miami in the 2020 NFL Draft. Ferguson played collegiately at LSU, where he became the first long snapper in program history to be named a permanent team captain.

Needham has appeared in 62 games with 27 starts in six seasons with Miami (2019-24). He's totaled 199 tackles (144 solo), 3.0 sacks, six interceptions, 25 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in his career. He's also had one interception return for a touchdown and played in one playoff game. He appeared in Miami's Week 5 victory at New England this season, contributing a special teams tackle. Needham originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 9, 2019. He played collegiately at UTEP.

Overton has appeared in 139 career games in 10 seasons with Indianapolis (2012-16), Jacksonville (2017-18), Tennessee (2020), L.A. Chargers (2021) and Dallas (2022), totaling 17 special teams tackles (nine solo). He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and has played in nine postseason games with Indianapolis (2012-14), Tennessee (2020) and Dallas (2022). Overton entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2007 with Seattle, where he spent training camp. He spent time with the Tri-Cities Fever (2008) of the National Indoor Football League, as well as with the Florida Tuskers (2009) and Omaha Nighthawks (2010) of the United Football League. Overton played collegiately at Western Washington (2005-06), where he was a team captain and a two-year starter at defensive end and long snapper. He attended Diablo Valley College (2003-04) before transferring to Western Washington.
