Thursday night, after a week of poking and prodding, the 2020 NFL quarterback prospects will hit the field for on-field drills at the scouting combine. The event will be televised on NFL Network beginning at 4:00 EST. On the latest edition of the Drive Time podcast, NFL Network's Charley Casserly talked about the most important aspect of this week-long event – and it wasn't the stuff you see on television.
There are formal interviews, media availabilities and the famed underwear Olympics that puts the players' bodies under a microscope, but it's the behind-the-scenes activity that teams covet. For the signal-callers, that part of the process has concluded and it's time for them to hit the field today.

On the potential first overall selection.

Tua Tagovailoa (No. 2 TDN Ranked QB, No. 5 overall)
On the idea of sitting behind a veteran quarterback for his rookie season.
"As a competitor, I want to be able to play. But you look at a lot of the guys that are really good and a lot of the greats, they've been mentored by big-time quarterbacks as well and veteran quarterbacks. If a team needs me to go out there and start for them, I'll do that. But if they need me to sit behind someone and learn from them, I can't see what's wrong with that as well."
Justin Herbert (No. 3 TDN Ranked QB, No. 15 overall)
On his growth during his time at Oregon.
"I'm a different person to be honest. I think the kid that showed up at the University of Oregon isn't me anymore. There's aspects of my game that have changed. I've become more vocal. I've become more outgoing and there are things you have to do to be a quarterback and the way the quarterback carries himself. I think I've done a great job of becoming that over these past four years."
Jordan Love (No. 4 TDN Ranked QB, No. 37 overall)
On his ability to make throws outside of the pocket.
"Yeah that's something that I feel like is a huge part of my game. When the play breaks down, being able to make off-schedule plays and get out of the pocket, throw on the move and be able to take off and run. That's just that instinct, growing up playing backyard football, being out there. You kind of have it or you don't. I think I've got that playmaking ability."
Jacob Eason (No. 5 TDN Ranked QB, No. 49 overall)
On what point he's trying to drive home to the teams looking at him this week.
"The confidence factor is the biggest thing in terms of my arm strength. I've been busting my butt to get where I'm at today. A lot of the guys will see me as a laid-back type person. I think that skews how people perceive my work ethic and the way I go about things. It takes a lot of work to get to this point, and there's a lot of work to do to get beyond this point, especially after the draft. Wherever we all go, I know I'm going to work my butt off to be the best player I can be."
Jake Fromm (No. 6 TDN Ranked QB, No. 66 overall)
On the freedom he was given to audible at the line of scrimmage.
"I would say, I probably had as much or more as any college quarterback as far as what I could do at the line of scrimmage. The coaches really trusted me a lot. I could change a run to a pass, a pass to a run. This play to that play. I was really grateful for the kind of power they gave me with the offense. It was awesome. It was a great learning curve for me. It's really going to prepare me for this next level and what I can do and how I can communicate."
Jalen Hurts (No. 7 TDN Ranked QB, No. 75 overall)
On his approach at the combine.
"I think the approach for me is just trying to get better every day. I don't put a ceiling on this, my ability in terms of how great I can be. I'm definitely a student of the game. I've been able to adjust to all these different coaches I've been a part of. For me, it's just about taking steps every day and trying to be the best I can be."
The interview focus today shifts to the defensive side of the ball. Defensive linemen and linebackers will speak to the media Thursday morning ahead of the quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends taking the field at Lucas Oil Stadium tonight.
